This article includes an initial list of platforms which I will separate into 3 main categories to give you a broad view of the sector:

• Act-to-Earn: just like it sounds, doing something like walking or other physical activities (often called ‘Move-to-Earn’), or browsing the internet and being rewarded for it.

• De-Pin: This stands for decentalised physical infrastructure and generally means using a physical asset like a phone or computer to in some way contribute to a network.

• Gaming: playing computer games in reward for earning tokens.

As an aside for the uninitiated, the technology behind all of these platforms is blockchain. This is because:

• Blockchain has the ability to accurately record individuals and their actions by recording and verifying every step ‘on-chain’ without the ability for it to be tampered with; and

• Cryptocurrencies are created by each platform (called a token or coin) and are used to reward users of the platform. This equates to a specific currency (note that the status of regulation around the world is inconsistent).

So whether you are an existing cryptocurrency investor or not, by using these platforms you are taking a step into the blockchain world (also referred to as Web3 - as opposed to Web2 which is the pre-blockchain internet).

Many people think these more real world uses of blockchain/crypto will be the way we get the first billion people into crypto. In otherwords, the first adopters were investors, speculators and traders…. and now platforms like the ones below will bring more people in from the general population.

A key goal of Future Earn is to provide a resource for both crypto and non-crypto people to enter this space, start earning and begin to understand where we are all headed.

A few comments:

• It should be said that in most cases the money you can make on a daily / weekly basis is very low. Some people may find the rewards too small to care, but as I’ve said previously, this about a societal shift in how we wearn just as much as how much people are earning now.

• The value of the token, like shares on a stock market, go up and down and as you earn each token their value has an ability to grow over time. A friend recently told me that he was earning USD$20 / day on STEPN when their token value was high - just for going on his morning walk.

• Play-to-earn will be such a big category going forward that it will be almost impossible for me to track each and every platform. Therefore, I plan to focus on the best ones with the biggest momentum, rewards and token value.

• I’m hoping other categories appear as this trend matures and viable usiness models emerge. Gaming and movement are the most advanced, so we are all waiting to see if DePIN has legs, and what else will come up.

• I predict that anything we do on our phones that can be tracked will be gamified. If we can track steps via a phone, we can track articles read, audible books finished, reviews provided. Even hours slept.

So you can see, there are different categories and different ways to earn. I hope this has given you good overview to understand the options and begin to dive in.

I encourage you to look beyond the obvious conclusion that it was all a scam, and instead realise it was a team who was onto something profound, but let it get out of control.
